Falak Dalani: Building Climate Literacy on Campus
We are proud to support residents who bring their academic expertise and personal values to bear on some of the world’s most pressing issues. Falak Dadlani, a fourth-year international student at Curtin University studying Mining Engineering and Commerce (Management), exemplifies this spirit through her work in environmental education.
Falak also serves as the Senior Residential Advisor (RA), where she plays a leadership role in fostering a cohesive and values-driven residential community. Her climate advocacy is rooted in cultural tradition, "In my culture, we worship trees. That tradition instilled in me a deep respect for nature from a young age and continues to shape my commitment to environmental stewardship."
Falak is currently the only active facilitator in Western Australia with Climate Fresk, an international non-profit organisation that offers workshops grounded in the most recent scientific findings of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, the United Nations body responsible for assessing climate change. These workshops use visual, interactive tools to help participants understand the systems and consequences of climate change.
"Climate Fresk workshops provide an accessible and collaborative way to explore complex scientific ideas. They’re designed to spark dialogue, shift perspectives and encourage informed action. To date, I’ve facilitated two workshops across the Curtin and UWA campuses, engaging residents in climate-focused learning."
"It’s incredibly rewarding to see how quickly people connect with the science when it’s delivered through hands-on, thoughtful discussion. Being part of a college that supports student-led initiatives like this has been key to bringing these workshops to life."
Falak’s work highlights how climate literacy, when supported by education and community, can be both empowering and transformative. We look forward to seeing her continue to lead, inspire and educate.
