Nathan Oliver Awarded Emeritus Professor John Jackson Undergraduate Scholarship
Nathan Oliver after receiving the Emeritus Professor John Jackson Undergraduate Scholarship at UWA
“The combination of my love for mathematics and working on solutions to real-life problems brought me to engineering, while my curiosity for how the world works brought me to physics.”
Congratulations to Nathan Oliver on being awarded the prestigious Emeritus Professor John Jackson Undergraduate Scholarship.
Nathan joined St Catherine’s College this year as a fresher and is studying a Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) and Bachelor of Philosophy (Honours) at The University of Western Australia (UWA), majoring in Mechanical Engineering and Frontier Physics.
Originally from Bunbury and raised in nearby Dalyellup, Nathan graduated from Bunbury Senior High School in 2025. His interest in engineering and physics grew from a curiosity about how things work and a desire to solve real-world problems.
“The combination of my love for mathematics and working on solutions to real-life problems brought me to engineering, while my curiosity for how the world works brought me to physics,” he said.
Awarded to one student each year, the scholarship provides comprehensive support throughout undergraduate study and recognises academic potential and commitment.
Reflecting on life at the College, Nathan said the community has quickly become a highlight of his first semester.
“I value the people at St Catherine’s College. Everyone is polite and welcoming, and the highlight of my day is often a good conversation with someone during a club or while eating in the Dining Hall.”
Looking ahead, Nathan hopes to work on emerging technologies and complex engineering challenges while continuing to apply physics to real-world problems.
Nathan’s achievement reflects his dedication and curiosity, and we look forward to following his journey at the College and UWA.
