Residents gained a fresh perspective on inflation and interest rates during the latest St Catherine's College Insight Series, led by Dr Andrew Brennan, Senior Lecturer in Economics at Curtin University.

Through The Inflation Game, an interactive market simulation, residents experienced firsthand how inflation influences negotiation, pricing and decision making. Dr Brennan's engaging approach encouraged discussion throughout the evening, making complex economic concepts accessible without feeling like a traditional lecture.

Ethan Yap, a first-year Bachelor of Commerce student majoring in Finance, said the session gave him "a better understanding of how interest rates and inflation affect one another", with the interactive game helping explain the concepts in a practical way.

For Ethan Lauro, a second-year Bachelor of Commerce student double majoring in Accounting and Finance, the highlight was seeing "how quickly negotiations broke down as inflation increased or became unpredictable", and how Dr Brennan connected the results back to real-world economics.

The Insight Series continues to give residents the opportunity to engage with academics and industry professionals, exploring ideas beyond the classroom through interactive learning experiences.
