Tutoring. Academic Excellence in practice.

Advancing Academic Excellence

At St Catherine’s College, you will engage in a comprehensive academic enrichment program that enhances your university studies and drives high achievement. This expert-led tutorial system is a defining feature of our intellectually ambitious community.

Personalised academic instruction

Our tutoring service offers over 110 tutorials each week across all disciplines and year levels. These small-group sessions (maximum five residents) are led by experienced academic educators who provide targeted academic guidance. Whether you are aiming for top marks or need help with a challenging unit, you can request tutorials as needed.

Real results

Academic achievement is a hallmark of life at St Catherine’s. More than half of all unit results earned by residents are High Distinction or Distinction, and over one-quarter of residents consistently achieve results at the Distinction level or higher across all units.

St Catherine’s is the first residential college to receive The University of Western Australia’s Excellence in Teaching and Learning Award, recognition of our leadership in academic enrichment.

Our tradition of excellence includes residents who have been recognised as Rhodes Scholars for Western Australia.

Academic Celebrations

Academic dinners and formal events are integral to the academic culture at St Catherine’s, offering students opportunities to connect, reflect and be inspired.

Formal Hall Celebrations

Each Monday evening, residents gather in academic gowns for a three-course dinner in Withnell Dining Hall. These evenings often include live music and guest speakers from diverse academic and professional fields.

Faculty and Industry Dinner Celebrations

Throughout the semester, residents are encouraged to invite university tutors, lecturers or industry mentors to join us for dinner. In one semester alone, nearly 90 academic and professional guests attended these events, enriching the student experience.

Scholars’ Dinner Celebration

This annual celebration recognises the academic achievements of our highest-performing residents. It is a formal occasion that brings the community together to honour dedication, excellence and ambition.
